The Usability Sub-team created a report and associated survey to identify common issues for the Collection Organization view in the PUI and to generate community feedback. The survey results produced four main recommendations:
Tree navigation should be placed on left side of the screen by default (should be configurable)
Design should include consistently legible text; 14 size font general text, 18 font for title/headings, Arial default https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/
Increase white space and decrease visual text-heaviness. There is a recommended ratio: https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/
Create placement visualization within the collection hierarchy (“you are here” feature)
Please see Survey Responses- Summary and Key Takeaways for a complete breakdown of responses and associated issues.
These recommendations look good to me, but I’d strongly suggest adding two features from our branch of ASpace:
Load everything (rather than the current lazy-loading approach); we’ve been using this for a long time, and it’s great . It allows users to use Control-F, and it helps out with other accessibility issues present.
Implement configurations to control which notes displays in the single-scroll view; we’ve also been using for a while now, and it’s also great (see https://github.com/hudmol/archivesspace/blob/084dd7c68bfb0e02931a99ebdd3b36230a79706e/common/config/config-defaults.rb#L599-L609).
