As an archivist, I would like to record geolocation metadata in geographic entries in the Subject module.

Description

There is currently no field available in the Subjects module for recording geographic coordinates of locations in the Subject module. Values should be able to be recorded in a way that is compatible with EAC-CPF and EAD3, if possible.

Comment from Emma Jolley, National Library of Australia: This sounds brilliant and very useful. We have a large map collections which uses finding aids but we also want to put in geographic co-ordinates/locations for archival collections either referring to a geographic location in content or originating from a specific location. Congrats on specifying such a great feature (fingers crossed).

Comment from ArchivesSpace User List, Rachel Donahue: “This sounds like a great feature to have, but also like it could involve a fair amount of work. For us, it definitely isn't a high priority.”

We do similar work in our digital repository. We have both the option of a lat/lon combination for a specific coordinate and we also support adding GeoName URIs to our Geographic Location subject terms (similar to recording URIs from LC, FAST, or VIAF) for linked data purposes. I can use both of these for populating map displays.
