We’re having trouble searching for our own university records through our ASpace PUI because we’re using search strings like
film AND “West Virginia University”
to find information on the film program at WVU, but the string “West Virginia University” appears in every single one of our resource records in the Physical Location note and the Preferred Citation note. Essentially, adding our institution’s name to a keyword search in order to narrow the search results is useless because it always shows up in those two fields. We can do a search where the keyword is film and the creator contains "West Virginia University", but this will exclude collections where the university is a subject and not the creator.
I wonder if it would be possible to allow institutions to exclude certain notes (like physical location and preferred citation) from the search.
There has been some changes since 2.3.2 regarding SOLR and searches. In your case would it be possible to do an “or” search with subject or creator.
, thank you for the work-around, it does work if I put the subject, creator, and keyword search terms in the correct order, and it is extra important now that the request has become “closed-will not do”! We will put this in our tutorials for patrons; I know our most novice users will really appreciate the help.
