Actually, what I had in mind was that all of the BiogHists present would be displayed. We generally have a BiogHist in the Agent record, but sometimes there is one in a Resource record as well that describes how the particular collection came to be assembled. Mostly, though, there is only one or the other. I’m assuming that other institutions might use the same workflow, but that might not be the case.
In addition, if there is more than one Agent linked to a Resource record, I’d like to see all of their BiogHist notes displayed.
If there’s more than one BiogHist being displayed, whether it’s because there is one in the Resource & one in the Agent record, or because there are multiple Agent records, then we could append the name of the Agent to the standard label, for instance:
Biographical / Historical : Squirrel, Jane
Thank you for considering this!
When you say all the BiogHist of Agents linked, you don’t mean just the Creator(s)?
Dev note: Some consideration might need to be made for the same Agent somehow linked twice to the record (if possible). I don’t think the same BiogHist needs repeating probably.
Edgar, good point! Yes, we have many Resources that have an Agent linked as both a Creator and a Subject.
I think it might be best to only display the BiogHists associated with linked Agents designated as Creator or as Source. The BiogHist associated with an Agent linked as a Subject would display with the Agent, as it does now. You are right, the same BiogHist does not need to be repeated!
From an ArchivesSpace community chat today, we suggested that perhaps the feature could be similar to a LibGuide link/copy feature. If you want a boiler-plate note, you can link it and a user would edit the centralized master version. If you would like to customize it for the particular linked record, you can copy it over and change only that copied version.
