The ArchivesSpace team is pleased to share the ArchivesSpace Technology and Development Roadmap. This roadmap is a planning and communication tool to help the community know what to expect in terms of future development work and aid in planning for upcoming application releases.
We're now making the roadmap available as a series of views targeted at the needs of different kinds of ArchivesSpace stakeholders.
- An All Details view presents our four categories of development and detailed information on where each development item is in the process, associated JIRA tickets, who is responsible for work on it, and when it is targeted for release. This view also highlights items for which we are particularly interested in having community developer contributions. This will be the view for those who are really immersed in an institution’s ArchivesSpace planning or who are looking to get involved in the activities of development, as well as those following a particular feature through the development process.
all details (as of Oct. 22, 2019) - A Calendar view provides some detail about development in each category arranged chronologically by planned release. This may be most appropriate for a department head or systems person who needs to know the end result of ArchivesSpace development throughout the year, but could be useful for anyone who want to have a sense of the releases that are going to be coming out during the year, but not all the information leading up to them.
calendar 2019 | calendar 2020 - Release-specific views that list what’s included in a specific release. These are appropriate for anyone looking for a snapshot of what was or is intended to be in each release.

The All Details view has an impact score (ranging 1 - 3) for each development item to give a sense of the relative complexity and degree of improvement it represents in the application. An explanation of what the different impact scores mean and the criteria for determining them is included at the end of the first view. The impact scores enable us to represent the value of different development projects visually for stakeholders who may be less familiar with the specifics of archival practice or application maintenance.

This release contains program-led and community pull requests that provide feature enhancements, bug fixes, infrastructure improvements and documentation updates. There are a number of small changes to the staff and public interfaces. There is also a significant revamp of how background jobs run, including a new reports page layout. This release also has a new feature guided by a community-initiated and authored specification, the option to generate human-readable URLs for use in the public user interface.
