The ArchivesSpace team is pleased to share the draft ArchivesSpace Technology and Development Roadmap with the community. This This roadmap is a planning and communication tool to help the community know what to expect in terms of future development work and aid in planning for upcoming application releases and application upgrades. The current version of the roadmap is attached to this wiki page (Excel file; download it to your computer or view in Google Sheets). A narrative (PDF; download it to your computer if you are having trouble loading it in your browser) that accompanied the January 2017 version of the roadmap provides some context and background
We're now making the roadmap available as a series of views targeted at the needs of different kinds of ArchivesSpace stakeholders.
- An All Details view presents our four categories of development and detailed information on where each development item is in the process, associated JIRA tickets, who is responsible for work on it, and when it is targeted for release. This view also highlights items for which we are particularly interested in having community developer contributions. This will be the view for those who are really immersed in an institution’s ArchivesSpace planning or who are looking to get involved in the activities of development, as well as those following a particular feature through the development process.
all details (as of Oct. 22, 2019) - A Calendar view provides some detail about development in each category arranged chronologically by planned release. This may be most appropriate for a department head or systems person who needs to know the end result of ArchivesSpace development throughout the year, but could be useful for anyone who want to have a sense of the releases that are going to be coming out during the year, but not all the information leading up to them.

The All Details view has an impact score (ranging 1 - 3) for each development item to give a sense of the relative complexity and degree of improvement it represents in the application. An explanation of what the different impact scores mean and the criteria for determining them is included at the end of the first view. The impact scores enable us to represent the value of different development projects visually for stakeholders who may be less familiar with the specifics of archival practice or application maintenance.
The complete record for core code development is in JIRA. This includes all completed development work (including all the work that was previously represented in Pivotal Tracker and migrated to JIRA in January 2015), current development work, work prioritized to be addressed in the near future, and work not yet prioritized.
Starting in 2016, development work to be Development work conducted by the ArchivesSpace Program Team and contractors will be is prioritized by the Development Prioritization subteamSub-Team in collaboration with ArchivesSpace Program Team members. The Development Prioritization subteam is composed of members of the ArchivesSpace User and Technical Advisory Councils.

This release contains program-led and community pull requests that provide feature enhancements, bug fixes, infrastructure improvements and documentation updates. There are a number of small changes to the staff and public interfaces. There is also a significant revamp of how background jobs run, including a new reports page layout. This release also has a new feature guided by a community-initiated and authored specification, the option to generate human-readable URLs for use in the public user interface.

This release contains program-led and community pull requests that provide feature enhancements, bug fixes, infrastructure improvements, and documentation updates. In addition to more accessibility improvements, the release fixes an issue that those with Windows servers were experiencing when producing a PDF from the staff interface. This release contains many program-led and community pull requests that provide feature enhancements, bug fixes, infrastructure improvements, and documentation updates. The centerpiece of this release is the refactored reports. Other especially noteworthy improvements are code that reduces loading times for records in the staff interface and work to improve OAI-PMH and export functionality. Smaller items include small updates to the PDF produced from the public interface and the option to use Japanese translations for the interface labels. There are also some bug fixes for the public and staff interfaces and some additional automated tests and infrastructure upgrades.
