Our users want a warning popup to appear on screen to confirm when hitting the browser back button, exiting the popup, or selecting the “Cancel” button when using the RDE screen. This can be similar to the popup generated when a user attempts to delete a resource or archival object. Clicking outside of the RDE box does not close RDE, as was fixed in
We’ve had multiple times where a user will accidentally click their browser back button after working on adding 10s or 100s of rows in RDE, losing out on a lot of effort. If there was at least a popup message warning the user of this, it may save them from losing that data by double-checking what they have already entered. See attached for a mockup of what this could look like.
Having this popup apply every time a user clicks “Cancel” or the exit button, even if there is no data entered, may be the most straightforward solution (though it does make the user do more clicking). We understand that it is recommended to only save 10 to 20 rows of data at a time, but we still think this would be a good stop-gap measure to help prevent the loss of data no matter the number of rows entered.
