As a system administrator, I need a barcode validation configuration option for location barcodes and for child container barcodes so that I can avoid barcode entry errors.

Background

In ArchivesSpace, it is possible to set validation parameters for top container barcodes in the application's configuration file. Unfortunately, this validation only seems to work for top containers. It does not apply to location barcodes or to child container barcodes. I would like to be able to validate barcodes for all ArchivesSpace fields where barcodes are present. There is no need to change or modify the options for barcode validation that are present for top containers -- I would just like the same options to be extended across the application.

Behavior scenarios

Given a staff member enters a barcode into the location barcode or child barcode field
When the staff member saves the record
Then the record will save without problem if valid OR throw an error if invalid according to the application's configuration file
