As an archivist, I want to view records created/updated by a particular user

Description

Reported for Andrew Harman, Chapman University:

"I would like to be able to not only search records by the user that created them, but be able to pull up a user and see everything they have done; at least everything they have created."

Would also be interested in having this functionality and think it’s something the sector is looking more at. At a basic level, know recording a before / after record of the change, the user details and when the change was made.

We’ve seen quite a bit of interest in ArchivesSpace having more robust Audit Functionality from incoming RFI/RFP things and from hosted folks. People just wanted to know more about who did what and when. There does seem to be interest out there, based and what I’ve seen/heard. Mostly from places considering ArchivesSpace but also from places using it. e.g. they want to look at a record and see who changed it and what they did and when they did it.

Dev. Pri. discussed this ticket today and decided that more specification is needed, particularly feedback about the Dashboard feature.

Technically, this capability wouldn’t only be for the Dashboard of a particular user, but is also applicable for a processing manager QA-ing work accomplished.

The Staff Interface Enhancement Working Group provided feedback in 2018 (attached), which was part of a packet of wireframes which include the Dashboard. Synthesizing and adding more feedback here:

  1. Simplifying the Dashboard to have the top 5 most recently created or updated Resources, Accessions, Reports, etc, are helpful, plus a See More option to delve deeper would be nice.

  2. The See More view could list was has been created or updated (as long as it wasn’t overwritten). Not having a comprehensive audit trail seems good enough to at least start.

This is the Cherry Hill wireframe which responded to the SIEWG recs. Perhaps its a slightly different angle but they all seem to point to an area of need in the program.

- Thanks so much for attaching that doc. I think the SIEWG recs do not directly endorse what this ticket asks for.

I think perhaps the overlap is on page 4: Wireframe for User Profiles. Although in those SIEWG recs, it appears that the desired ability to pull up what a staff member had worked on would occur by searching and pulling from fields in the Collection Management section (e.g., Processors) vs pulling up the username and timestamp of a record's creation or when it was last edited (i.e., what this ticket asks for).

Unless I'm missing something else in the SIEWG recs – I think SIEWG and this ticket are asking for two different things, and so I think this ticket does need additional feedback from the community.
