    • Developing standardized procedure for Dev Pri members to edit Jira tickets

    • Sent ticket to list for community feedback

  • Metadata Standards:

    • Reviewed and discussed the results of the community survey.

    • Prioritize tickets based on survey results: For example, less emphasis on MARC importer and more emphasis on EAD, etc.Need in the community to maintain compatibility with EAD 2.0for this transition period, but make sure we’re moving forward as EAD evolves

      • What are people importing and exporting?

        • Using mostly spreadsheets for imports. MARC less used for imports.

  • Technical Documentation:

    • Support transition to new platform from GitHub pages Jekyll for Tech Docs

    • Improve API documentation starting with jobs, search, and agents endpoints, and any changes from recent releases

EAD 4.0

Alexander Duryee

Presentation Notes:

Anticipated release of EAD4 in 2025/early 2026. Shown info-graphic for Benefits of EAD 4.0:

  • Unifying EAD and EAC-CPF 2.0. to ease maintenance and interoperability (moving data between the two)

  • Make it more sustainable - more supportive of linked data, vocab source URI and support for other URIs. Linking between elements using target attribute. Developing with eye toward RIC.

  • Exchangeable - data format for data exchange between systems/institutions. Removing print-focused markup. Shrinking size of tag library. No more runners! Expands <control> element.

  • Extensible - removing lots of mixed content to three built-in elements (<p> tag child elements being reduced). Clarifying ambiguities between elements.

  • Example of EAD4 work: <relations> element - narrowed scope to archival instantiations - relationships of materials to description.

  • Jump from EAD2002 to EAD4 - more structure, being in ASpace helps since data is already structured.

    • No unitdates within unittitles, mixed content changes - all things to anticipate data cleanup for practitioners.

Questions for discussion:

  • Would you be interested in using the new features of EAD4 (such as EAD/EAC-CPF crosswalking) and support for EAD3 features (such as finding aid maintenance notes) in ASpace?

    • Connection between lack of EAD adoption and use of ASpace + lack of support from aggregators (still using EAD2002). Moving entire ASpace environment to EAD4 is a big task and need support from each other to work.

  • Are there any features you'd like to see in EAD4?

    • N/A

  • Based on what you've seen so far, do you see EAD4 as a priority for support in ASpace?

    • N/A
