20 min | Mark Chalmers presents project proposal draft | Mark is on a fellowship with Lyrasis, working on integrations with ArchivesSpace, Islandora, DSpace, CollectionsSpace. Goal is to better articulate vision what roles archivists can play in integrations, not necessarily coding plug-ins. Mark met with Seth Shaw (UNLV) who have integrated ArchivesSpace with Islandora, with the latter providing the public user interface. Archivists provided expertise on treatment of fields. Mark would like to explore this sort of interaction. Sarit agrees archivists have a role to play in technical projects. Elizabeth thinks there is a split between technical staff and archivists, and few of both. | |
15 min | Discuss 2021-2022 workplan | Hacking fields to get records to display how the archivists want causes problems. The PUI doesn’t look like a traditional finding aid. Kate proposed Mark create a lists of questions that archivists and developers should ask each other. Another proposal was to update “How to Integrate” guide to be better for archivists, particularly those starting out. A guide to the jargon (e.g. what is an API). Add links to training courses in the skills needed (e.g. do you need to know Python? Figure out how to use GitHub?) | |
