Updates from Jessica5 minutesJessica Crouch

Jessica at impromptu online Intro to ArchivesSpace training we’re holding on Monday and Tuesday during the time of the UAC meeting. Her update:

We’ve had a surge in users accessing the user manual in the past weeks as people move to a WFH environment and prioritize working in ArchivesSpace since it is one of the few archival tasks you can do from home.  We’ve received a few comments directly on the manual recently as more people are reading the pages but these comments have been catching typos and small fixes primarily (which is great).  I’ve been fixing those as they come in.  I’ve also edited content on the Creating Accessions page to reflect ArchivesSpace only requires an identifier to save an accession record, not identifier and date.  I also updated the page related to Creating Subjects records to include a key to the icons that correspond to different types of subjects.

Tried to outline a style guide and established steps to complete and build on as we go along.

  • Step 1. Layout and format - create a template addresses font, paragraphing format, formatting headings and screen shots.
  • Step 2. Content structure addresses layout, linking to glossary, and abbreviations.
  • Step 3. Format the style guide to mirror the style guide.
  • Step 4. Use cases
  • Step 5. Global application

Style Guide will be cleaned up as they go along. First steps are to address basic formatting, followed by more detailed formatting guidelines.

Note: The style guide was built for Confluence, but with an awareness that the manual may move out of the system in the future.

For the time being we will focus just on on the skeleton buildout and then circle back to discuss and work through some of the questions related to versioning, page watching, and level's of detail on pages that need more discussion.

Sarit Hand, Johanna Carll, and Angela White will work closely with Jessica Crouch on building out the Style Guide and chunking out sections to work through.

Still be looking for someone to eventually take lead of the team. Jasmine wants to be working with this person starting in the spring to ensure smooth transition.
