5 minUpdates on integrations and news
  • Circa

There has been a lot of talk about Circa, especially now that it is getting closer to release.

Circa is an open source collection management system being developed by NC State for tracking boxes and checking things out to the reading room.  We believe they are also working on integration with ArchivesSpace, primarily driven by Trevor Thornton.

  • ILS Integrations
Several people/institutions have attempted to export ArchivesSpace information into their ILSes, with varying degrees of success.  One of the difficulties is how to represent component level information given that the catalog lacks collection level context.  This appears to be something that our team could help with and we think the best way to get started will be to facilitate a broader community discussion.

2016-2017 Work Plan

ArchivesSpace labs was a great start to helping organize existing projects

The How/Why resources, wiki reorganization, and the addition of integration information on ArchivesSpace.org were big wins for increased visibility and helping people get started with integrations.

SAA and Code4lib presentations were great for both gathering ideas from and sharing information with the community.

20 minPlans and ideas for 2017-2018 work plan

We'd like to spend the next month determining what our mission should be before settling on a working plan, but we did discuss ideas.

  • Continue building out ArchivesSpace labs
  • Continue increasing visibility through presentations, discussions on the listserv, etc.
  • Continue improving documentation on integrations. This might be a good working group topic.
  • Build a blog series to highlight successful projects (Patrick will reach out to find out if there is an existing block space)

Much of the discussion was based around the mission itself.  We noted that it differed from the missions of other sub-teams in that it is not as closely tied to ArchivesSpace development and its workload is not constant.  We discussed the possibility of taking a more hands on approach to facilitating integrations by building out documentation, increasing listserv participation, and/or hosting public calls to provide users with a place to ask questions and seek advice.
