Hot off the press updates from recent Governance Board meeting

Gordon

The Board is going to be considering DEIA issues and is interested in ideas and feedback from the Councils on ways to engage.

Leadership training

All

Very few signups for the live class. It may be too early in the year for people. Might want to consider for later in the year next time. Discussion in UAC meeting coalesced a bit around that it would be more helpful to have a live experience where people can ask questions/hear about real scenarios. Also, still the question of how much people want general leadership/management vs. ArchivesSpace-specific leadership. We will be paying attention to this in assessments of the program at various points.

Calendaring tools?

All

Valerie is going to take as her pet project investigating different tools like Doodle Pro and Calendly and report back to the group with some recommendations.

Joint UAC/TAC meeting for September

All

Agenda is pretty much set:
Intros/icebreaker
Introduction and discussion of individual sub-team workplans

Looks like it will happen on September 30, but Dan will send out one more reminder to Doodle poll non-responders.

Think all groups are solid on what they’re supposed to be doing in creating their workplans, especially since many had ones to go on from last year, but will check in with the groups as part of reminding about the meeting.

The API documentation working group’s incorporation into Tech Docs is maybe the one open question in terms of how that will be reflected in the Tech Docs workplans.

Other concerns/ideas

All

How did onboarding for the new term go? Consensus is that it went well for new members and the new resources Brittany pulled together for the orientation manual are very helpful. The lack now is in onboarding for sub-team leaders. We want to make this a more formal process and make the resources/guidance people need more explicit. Some ideas:

  • Do leader onboarding in June, before the start of the new term

  • Have the previous year’s leader attend the first meeting of the new term

  • Put together a manual like the new member orientation manual

    • Pull together existing resources from the Council level and teams; identify any gaps

  • We will make this an agenda item for next time.

We discussed teams thinking about how they can engage with the community. Some ways to consider furthering the discussion: include in workplans, make a topic at Council meetings.

Randy wants to reorganize the Councils wiki to have consistency between UAC and TAC. He will look at the UAC model and then propose an organization for the rest of us to review.
