2022-2023 Testing Retrospective

Overview

During the previous year, the Testing Sub-team worked on the following tasks:

  • Regression testing for the 3.4.0 release;

  • Tested or are currently watching 61 specific Jira issues;

  • Conducted discussions in the User Advisory Council and the Technical Advisory Council about potential collaboration between testing activities with the work of other sub-teams.

What Went Well

  • We were able to complete our testing assignments on schedule, providing feedback to the development team about ongoing work.

  • During each testing window we held scheduled virtual work sessions, which assisted with onboarding new members of the group.

What Could Be Improved

  • We continued to experience some difficulty meeting deadlines due to the limited size of the sub-team and the number of Jira testing cycles in the early part of the term. This was exacerbated during the 3.4.0 regression testing with the resignation of one team member, and the unavailability of another. Additional flexibility to involve community members or the ticket reporter could be considered to supplement the work of the Testing Sub-team.

  • The lack of returning members going into 2023-2024 may complicate leadership transitions for Testing in the coming year and make full testing more difficult.

  • While some additions were made to the Testing page in Confluence, adding a flowchart depicting the lifecycle of a Jira ticket, we did not get around to updating the Testing Process - 2016 documentation.
