FY2015/16 Call for Nominations to Governance Board

Distributed by Chair of the Nominations Committee to ArchivesSpace Member representatives

Dear ArchivesSpace Member Representative;

I am writing to seek your nominations of candidates to stand for election for the ArchivesSpace Governance Board representing the large, medium, and very small membership levels.  Member engagement is critical to the success of ArchivesSpace, and the Board welcomes your recommendations for strong candidates.

On behalf of the ArchivesSpace Governance Board and the ArchivesSpace community, I want to thank you for your continuing interest and membership in the ArchivesSpace program.  The ArchivesSpace program has enjoyed great success since beginning member enrollment in April 2013.  It has established a Governance Board and Technical and User Advisory Councils, and it is has enrolled just over 215 members.

With the approach of a new fiscal year, the ArchivesSpace program needs to elect three people to the ArchivesSpace Governance Board, one representing the large membership level, one representing the medium membership level, and one representing the very small membership level.  The current incumbents are all eligible for re-election.   The terms for the three elected candidates will be July 1, 2015-June 30, 2017.

To that end, I am pleased to report that the ArchivesSpace Governance Board recently constituted a Nominations Committee  for 2015 to oversee the process of electing Board members, including constructing a slate of candidates.  Members of the 2015/2016 Nominations Committee are:

·         Carol Mandel, Chair, New York University (Chair of the Board of Trustees)

·         Sibyl Schaefer, University of California, San Diego (Chair of the Technical Advisory Committee)

·         Gordon Daines, Brigham Young University (Chair of the User Advisory Committee)

·         Deirdre Scaggs, University of Kentucky (Member-at-Large representing Very Large and Large membership levels)

·         Kathryn Frederick, Skidmore College  (Member-at-Large representing Medium, Small, and Very Small membership levels)

The ArchivesSpace Goverance Board (http://www.archivesspace.org/board) is charged with providing oversight for ArchivesSpace application and community, including fiscal oversight; approval of development priorities, and oversight of the Technical and User Advisory councils.  To meet the needs of a broad and diverse membership in a balanced and equitable way, the ArchivesSpace Governance Board is composed of eleven members:

9 voting members:

5 elected members, one from each of the five membership categories;

3 standing members, one representing each of the three project partners: New York University, UC San Diego, and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; and

1 member representing the LYRASIS management team.

 ex officio members:

 ArchivesSpace Program Manager and

1 member of the LYRASIS Board of Directors.

Again, I am pleased to invite you to nominate candidates for the Governance Board representing ArchivesSpace members at the Large, Medium, and Very Small membership levels.  Nominees must be staff of an ArchivesSpace member organization in either the Large, Medium, or Very Small member levels (see the member lists at http://www.archivesspace.org/members). Nominees should also have  administrative and fiscal oversight experience, characteristics typical of a Director or Associate Director.

Nominations must be received by May 22.  Each nomination should be supported by a statement by the candidate that briefly describes the nominee’s interest in and qualifications for serving on the ArchivesSpace Governance Board.  An election will be held soon after the slate of candidates is constructed.

I look forward to receiving a nomination from you.  Please send it to Bradley Westbrook (brad.westbrook@lyrasis.org), the ArchivesSpace Program Manager, who will collect nominations on behalf of the Nominations Committee.

Cordially,

Carol A. Mandel

Chair, ArchivesSpace Nominations Committee
