2024-2025 Testing Retrospective
Overview
During the previous year, the Testing Sub-team worked on the following tasks:
Regression testing for the 4.0.0 release
Tested 33 specific Jira issues including 17 bugs and 16 new feature requests
Continued work on behavior scenarios in the regression testing workbook in preparation for the next round of regression testing and potential development of an automated end to end testing suite.
Created and distributed a “Testing Areas of Expertise” survey to more strategically assign Jira tickets and regression testing.
Updated the Testing Process documentation.
Created a testing demo video.
What Went Well
We were able to complete our testing assignments with only occasional need for additional time, providing feedback to the development team about ongoing work.
During each testing window we held scheduled virtual work sessions, which assisted with onboarding new members of the group and answering questions/addressing issues.
A vice-lead (Mary Kidd) was identified early in the term, hopefully easing the transition into leadership activities next year, and a vice-lead for the following term (Stacy Haponik) was also identified just before the start of the next term.
Lack of standing meetings allowed for team members to focus in specifically when testing work was occurring, making participation easier for members.
What Could Be Improved
The Conditional Statement work will need to be tested in practice to determine its usefulness.
The Testing Areas of Expertise survey was developed late in the term, after regression testing had been completed, and so was not used to make regression testing more streamlined. It was suggested that for the next round of regression testing each area of ASpace be tested by one person who is quite familiar with that aread and one person who is not particularly familiar with that area in order to get the best possible testing range.
