Welcome

  • Kelly Kress and Noah Lasley have joined the team!

  • Meeting day and time? Susannah will send out a Doodle poll.

2024-2025 Work Plan

  • Reviewed previous year’s work plan to identify ongoing projects to be addressed

  • Issues from the previous year:

    • Agents in PUI

  • Continue to work with Development Prioritization on assigned tickets

  • Continue to review “More Information Needed” tickets in the Jira queue

Agents in the PUI Review

  • Reviewed existing tickets related to usability of agents in the Public User Interface

    • Name usage dates (ANW-1811). Example: https://archivesspace.mit.edu/agents/people/975

    • Open date spans (ANW-1862) review identified additional issues:

      • Open spans are also present in sidebar display, and fix should also address these

      • Need to consider the impact of open spans on date-based searching in PUI

      • Some questions about whether single dates should be separate from open date spans, best practice for encoding standards

    • Sources display (ANW-1962)

    • Outline issues (ANW-2118). Example: https://archivesspace.mit.edu/agents/corporate_entities/1400

    • Other issues identified in agent review included:

      • Understandability of default relationship labels in the application--may need updates

      • Imported relationships from LC plug-in should also be reviewed

      • Display differences when using line breaks in notes as compared to <p> tags

      • Spacing issues in chronologies, citations

      • More documentation may be needed for the outline feature

Other projects?

  • Accessibility of PUI

    • The lack of headings in EAD makes it difficult to parse long blocks of text, especially for screen readers. This led a broader discussion of the accessibility of the PUI that the sub-team is interested in pursuing.

  • Flexibility of custom reporting

    • Making accession records more robust with check-marks to indicate different types of materials i.e. A/V, born-digital, oversize, etc. to be able to create custom reports.

  • Brian brought up some usability issues he’s currently working on his side of things

    • Animation

    • Dark mose

    • Customization/plug-ins (sharing what other institutions have done in a member-forum type event or even a publication)

    • Future-proofing the app

Vice-Lead discussion
