Discussion: Testing

Brief intro to what the testing team does. We’ll cover JIRA issue and full suite testing.

We thought it might be useful to discuss how people handle testing for their own institutions and what they might have learned from that process.

Group questions:

  • How do you handle testing new features and upgrades? Do you test your local workflows and processes prior to each release?

  • What have you learned about ArchivesSpace while testing for an upgrade or a newly added part of the application?

  • Is there functionality that you would have ignored had you not been testing that has proved useful?

  • What’s most challenging when you do testing?

  • For institutions that host their own installation of ArchivesSpace, have you customized the application and how does that impact and/or complicate your testing?

From discussion:

  • Case for making testing spreadsheet used by Testing sub-team available to community to use in local testing?  Consider presentation on testing spreadsheet at member forum

  • Must test when upgrading versions, but also if local environment changes

  • Need to select highlights in release to share with local users, some of whom are less experienced, which can influence gets tested locally

    • Release note target towards developers, would be useful to have a high level summary of what's changed. Summary could help User Docs identify things in need of documentation
