Attendees:

  • Esmé Cowles

  • Chris Fitzpatrick

  • Michael Giarlo

  • Katherine Kott

  • Eric Weig

Agenda

  1. Review Contributing to ArchivesSpace document draft, and identifying any licensing/process issues that need to be vetted.

  2. Engaging the hackfest attendees we remember and trying to identify the ones we don't.

Minutes

  1. Contributing

    1. Bug Reports

      1. Guidelines from https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md look good.

      2. If we have both Pivotal and Github issues, then we need to make sure these are reconciled.

      3. Some people open Github issues and send pull request to fix it.

      4. Not too cumbersome to copy them to Pivotal when that doesn’t happen, or create Pivotal tickets when issues are reported on mailing list.

      5. Committers should submit tickets to Pivotal.

    2. Contribution process

      1. Having devs work in a fork and submit a PR is pretty standard.

      2. Some friction is created because someone has to review the PR, or the dev has to find a reviewer, etc.

      3. Dedicated reviewers can help smooth this process out, but can become bottleneck too.

      4. Need to be able to handle external plugins and test them to make sure they are maintained.

      5. Migration tools need testing too.

      6. Fitz is the main PR reviewer.

      7. Should check with Lyrasis if there is an established license agreement, or if we should use Hydra/Fedora/Apache/etc. as a baseline.

        1. ECL2 license, so very similar to Hydra/Fedora license.  Just need to update link to ECL2.

  2. Code4Lib 2014 Hackfest

    1. Attendees

      1. Jason  (NC State)

      2. Adam Soroka (UVa)

      3. Trevor (NC State)

      4. Terry Reese (Ohio State)

      5. Ryan Wick (Oregon)

      6. Mark Cooper

      7. Justin Simpson (Archivematica)

    2. Future hackfests

      1. Get a roster of attendees

      2. Need to communicate CLA policy, so they aren’t surprised.

      3. Resolve before merging PRs.

Action Items

  • Esmé: add contributing guidelines from Discourse.

  • Katherine: Make ArchivesSpace-branded version of Apereo licensing agreements.

  1. Fitz: Fill out list of hackfest attendees from email, asking Nathan, etc. and contact them to gauge level of interest.

  • Mike: Write up hackfest Public Domain scenario

    1. I’ve decided to abandon this since it seems to be something of an anti-pattern and could ultimately be a rathole: http://opensource.org/faq#public-domain
