Can you help me with:

How do you make a thumbnail display for a digital object in the PUI?

Sarah Ponichtera, Seton Hall

Many organization are doing this different ways. It is important to have the Xlink actuate attribute set to Onload and and the Xlink Show Attribute embed for the file URI. One caveat is that it doesn’t resize to thumbnail so it will be the size of the image linked.

Additional documentation in the Help Center would be useful.

Natalie Adams points out “if you want the thumbnail to appear in the archival object record (as well as the digital object record) you need to add an instance linking to the DO and 'make representative'. Found that hard to wrap my head round too!”

How are other institutions managing hybrid collections (collections with born digital and analog materials) in ArchivesSpace?

Tara Laver, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Most institutions are integrating BD materials with analog materials however, to what degree they are creating hierarchy for born digital materials varies. It may be useful to create a stop gap measure of creating a document that represents the hierarchy and make that available in ArchivesSpace to give the user an idea of what that hierarchy is like.

There is interest in continuing the conversation within the community via listserv and maybe via discussion at a future forum. There is particular interest in identifying organizations who have documentation for how they handle this.

Other topics, on the fly conversation:

Round tripping and cleaning up component records

This can be messy and complicated. Some useful resources mentioned in the call include:

Work order: https://github.com/hudmol/digitization_work_order

From Noah Huffman: some XSLT that converts EAD to CSV. You'd probably need to manipulate the CSV to align with the Spreadsheet import tool: https://github.com/duke-libraries/archivesspace-duke-scripts/blob/master/xslt/aspaceEAD_to_SteadyCSV.xsl

Inheritance and how to make the best use of this feature.

Valerie Addonizio’s excellent webinar on inheritance will be available soon through Atlas Systems.
