Discussion of Brian Hoffman’s visit (continued)

• Discuss at subteam leads meeting; re-frame as questions/problems/user stories, not as solutions:

  • Leverage tests to document code → the documentation is bad / non-existent

  • It’s time to think about re-writing the importer from the ground up → the importer now is a patchwork of decisions and hard to understand and/or patch; each new feature request or bug report makes it worse

  • SAX-based importing v. DOM → importing is capped at a certain size, this is a problem for very large finding aids

• our main goal is to emphasize strategic approaches to developing this software for the community

EAD mapping spreadsheet deep dive

• How will we fill in the spreadsheet in cases where DACS mapping isn’t field-specific?

  • don’t use DACS MVP--we’ll look at all of DACS

  • map col. I to col. A

  • use filters as a shortcut to fill in columns for the same tag: filter > clear > name_of_tag > Done
